Overview of Koh ChangKoh Chang is Thailand's second largest island after Phuket. A former backpacker haven, Koh Chang is one of 47 islands off the coast of Trat in the southeast of the country. In recent years it has become increasingly developed and the island and surrounding area now receive around 400,000 visitors a year. Much of the island is covered with undisturbed rainforest and there is an abundance of wildlife. The tree-covered mountainous terrain, cliffs, mangroves and a clear sea make Koh Chang one of Thailand’s most scenic islands and offers visitors an active and varied holiday. AttractionsMany of the beaches at the southern end of the coastline are beautiful yet little visited and therefore offers peace and privacy. Beaches along this stretch of coast include Lam Klad, Had Sai Ngam, Had Sai Ngen, Had Muk, Had Sai Kaew, Had Ban Chuen and Had Lek. After DarkTon Sai Restaurant is a pleasant place to hang out at night. The unique restaurants and bar is set around a large banyan tree beside White Sand Beach. It serves Thai and international cuisine in a very pleasant atmosphere food. Nearby is Sabay Bar, with a Filipino band playing. At Hat Kai Muk or Pearl Beach is Skybay Pub, a popular night venue playing Thai music. Here you can enjoy listening to a professional live band until the early hours. Time to VisitTrat and the surrounding islands can be visited all year round but the most popular time to go is during the cool season, from November until February. During the rainy season from June to September the islands are much quieter but can be subject to frequent storms and the water conditions are less favorable.
Getting ThereBangkok Airways flies to Trat from Bangkok. There are three piers in Trat for ferries to Koh Chang, all in Laem Ngob district, a 30-minute ride from Trat town. Transport to the ferry is available from the market area. Travel time is approximately 25 minutes. |
